The populations of this route are identified by a diversity in living conditios, acces to housing, education and employment: despite this, they have tourist potential because of the natural and cultural wealth that makes possible the integration and development of a tourist-economic route, which will contribute to the development of the región.
The coffee activity whitin agricultura is of great economic relevance in some loocalities that mak up the route because of the nuber of social actors involved and the incomes generated for sales;
Its cultivation not only benefits both large and small landowners, but also the farmers who depend on its production. Its artisan production process, as well as its cultural value promotes activities for people interested in living tourist experiences in rural environments, potentiating the development of an alternative economic activity based on tourism.
Scheduled events
The events of relevance in the minicipalities of the Tourist-Economic Coffee Route are the festivities dedicated to the Patron Saint of each locality, in some of them organized through “mayordomías” with calenda festivities, processions, Masses, Fireworks, dances and band music.
Gastronomy
In Pluma Hidalgo you can enjoy a delicious pot coffee, delight yourself with the gastronomy of the place, such as the “amarillo de cocolmeca (bejuco)” or the toasted “palopan (castaña)”.
- San Miguel Suchixtepec is the place full of stories and beliefs in which the ritual and offering to the lightning, that takes place on the first of may, stand out. In the establishments of the place you can taste the “Shobe”, typical dish made with guajillo chili, corn kernels , and turkey meat.
- Santa Carina Cuixtla, In this town is the crucified Christ. Its gastronomy such as mole de tasajo, caldo de pastor (boiled egg with tomato and roasted chiles) and seguesa de puerco (roasted pork or spine, broken corn and chili) are representative of the place.
- Miahuatlán de Porfirio Díaz. Its gastronomy such as barbecue, and seguesa (shredded corn and meat juice) and tasting its delicious mezcal are other attractions of the place.
As representative drinks of the region are coffee, water and milk chocolate, fresh fruit waters of the season and especially coconut ones, without missing mezcal, tepache and pulque. Among the traditional sweets are coconut, pinole and buñuelos.
