It is located in the city of Oaxaca, at the southeast of Mexico. It was built between 1682 and 1690, and it is a sanctuary dedicated to the “Virgen de la Soledad” Patroness of the city of Oaxaca. The construction is of Baroque style, and is characteristic of its low height, as a constructive strategy to extend the useful life of the temple, in a region where earthquakes had destroyed for the date of its construction several important buildings. The basilica of Solitude is part of the historic center of the City of Oaxaca, which was declared a World Heritage Site by Unesco in 1987. | |||||
